Artists Statement
Designing and creating jewelry is my passion and joy! I use many techniques including bead-weaving, wire-wrapping, wire-weaving, and metal-smithing – which enable me to create chainmaille, bead-weaving, and hand-forged metal jewelry. You are as likely to see me working with a needle and thread as you are to find me with a hammer and torch!
Creating handwoven chain, chainmaille, is a complex and labor-intensive method of creating jewelry. It is also one of the most classic and enduring. I begin with wire, create jump rings and then weave them into different patterns using sterling silver, copper, and red brass. My handwoven chains are both classic and modern designs.
My handcrafted bead-woven jewelry is created one bead at a time using a needle and thread and a variety of stitches and materials. Bead-weaving with seed beads allows me to delve into color and texture using stitching techniques from across the globe. I use Ndebele stitch (Africa), St. Petersburg (Russia) and Peyote (Native American).
